We feel it’s important for our customers to know the story behind our brand so here is a quick recap of the brand’s journey so far and how we came to be The Mobile Phone Hut. 

From scouting local car boot sales as a 16-year-old, to one of eBay’s top rated sellers with over 7 thousand positive reviews, The Mobile Phone Hut and our founder has seen technology and mobile phones change significantly over its’ 16 years of trading.

However, one thing remains, Mark is still at the forefront of this family run business which has 100% positive feedback from its’ thousands of customers – something he couldn’t be prouder of! 

The Early Days

It all started 22 years ago at local weekend car boot sales where Mark would use his pocket money and ‘pot washing’ wages to buy up old tech items - TVs, computer monitors, PlayStations and of course, mobile phones! Buying for the first 3 weeks of the month and then putting the items on his stall on the 4th weekend of the month, he soon had a new hobby. Making sure it wasn’t an expensive one, he started filling out a notebook tracking his profit from each item. Mark’s uncle noticed his eye for trading tech and started taking him to a local mid-week auction. From studying the auction lot catalogue, writing down the lot numbers of interest and using the internet to research the true value of the items – Mark quickly began learning what auction items could make him a profit.

In 2007 he started looking for a wider market for his items and began to list items for auction on eBay. Mobile phones were taking off and with the first iPhone being launched in the same year, Mark knew that was the market he wanted to eventually tap into.

Giving it a Go

It continued as a small hobby through Mark’s uni years to fund a few rounds at the pub but 2 years later, in 2009, he took the plunge and decided to set up a business account on eBay and ‘give it a go’ as a budding young entrepreneur.

2009 was also the year that the iPhone 3Gs was launched and the rise of the smart phone began. Mark’s business timeline running somewhat poetically alongside the timeline of the iPhone and the changing mobile phone landscape.

As the business started to grow, so did Mark’s connections in the tech industry. The days of the car boot sales were far in the past and as a business TMPH was buying from a wide variety of suppliers, businesses, and individuals.

A eBay Gold Star and a Sister Brand

In 2015 The Mobile Phone Hut was awarded eBay’s Top-Rated Status and highlighted as the go to eBay store to purchase tech, a defining moment of all Mark’s hard work. It helped new customers see the authenticity and trustworthiness behind our brand.

In 2020, after several years of being eBay top rated, we set up our own purchasing website to broaden our purchasing pool. With this move, our sister brand Mobilephonetradein.co.uk was born and now, almost half a decade later, this is the biggest purchasing channel for our stock.

The Mobile Phone Hut Today

Today in 2025, we are proud to be in our 16th year of official trading! TMPH remains a family run business with Mark our founder still owning the business and steering the company from the helm. Nothing skips past his desk and that allows us to give the same tailored customer experience to an individual customer as to large returning business customers. Our customers are all an individual piece in the puzzle, and we have many customers that return to buy a new phone from us every single year.

We have now launched our online store on our website, taking our selling in-house but also remaining as one of eBay’s ‘top rated’ tech sellers.
